I can't connect to the internet
The problem will be either:
- just the one computer cannot connect to the internet (BBS/email and websites) or
- All of the computers cannot connect to the internet.
> Reboot (restart) the computer.
If that does not fix the problem > Check if the computer is connected to the network.
Checking the network connection
If the computer connects to the network by a (blue) network cable:
> Check that the cable is plugged in to both the computer and the socket.
If the computer connects to the network by a wireless connection:
> Check that the wireless connection is working.
If this does not fix the problem or if your not sure of the status of your connection
> Contact your IT support provider.
All computers are not connecting to the internet
Check if the problem is connecting to websites, the BBS, the server (shared files), or a combination of these.
If computers can connect to websites but can't connect to the BBS > Contact the BBS Administrator.
If computers can't connect to websites and can't connect to the BBS > Reboot the router.
If computers can't connect to websites, the BBS and the server > Reboot the server.
Contacting the BBS Administrator
Phone NACLC on (02) 9264 9595.
Rebooting (restarting) the router
Note: Before rebooting the router, warn other staff because you will be disconnecting them from programs that use the internet.
- Unplug the router from the power.
- Wait 20 seconds.
- Reconnect the router to the power.
If this does not fix the problem > Contact your IT support provider.
Rebooting the server
Note: Only do this on advice from your IT support contractor and its important to know relevant logins BEFORE you take this step.
Before rebooting the server, shut down everything else, all computers, printers etc that should be connected to the network.
Rebooting is merely shutting down and restarting the computer. A server will generally switch off in the same way as the other computers in the office. Switching it back on may require a high level password. You need to know this BEFORE you switch OFF the server.
