Based on the Victoria Legal Aid/Youthlaw booklet Am I Old Enough?, this quiz is a good icebreaker to convey the range of ways the law impacts young people's lives. In most cases it has been conducted as a 'call out' activity in a big group, with chocolates given for correct answers and discussion in between. It could also be run as a 'game show' or produced as a handout. |

Anti-Terrorism Laws: A Guide for Community Lawyers (2008) was produced on behalf of the Anti-Terrorism Laws Working Group of the Federation of Community Legal Centres (Vic) Inc. It provides information for lawyers on federal and state laws enacted since 11 September 2001 to deal with ‘terrorist’ activity. The guide includes definitions of a terrorist act and a terrorist organisation and outlines the range of terrorist offences and other preventative measures introduced into the Criminal Code. It also discusses the counter-terrorism roles and powers of ASIO and the Australian Federal Police, as well as special police powers. The project developed a community legal education kit for Australian communities affected by the anti-terror laws. The kit focuses on aspects of the laws relevant to the everyday activities of domestic communities. In particular, it is intended to build the community members' knowledge of their legal rights and responsibilities in relation to ASIO and the Australian Federal Police. The kit uses a train-the-trainer model, allowing for the delivery of legal education by recognised and trusted community leaders. |

Between a Rock and a Hard Place assists community workers to get the most out of the legal system for their clients. The publication covers many common legal areas that community workers encounter when managing their clients issues. There is a comprehensive and easy to understand manual and it is available online as a PDF. |

In Queensland, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of a Child is breached every day as 17 year olds are charged and imprisoned as adults. The Castaway campaign highlights that young people have the responsibilities of adults without the rights of adults, so they are legal castaways. The project will facilitate 100 young people to write 100 individual messages to be placed in a bottle and sent to 100 community leaders as a "message in a bottle." The campaign will also be supported by social media. |

In partnership with 10 organisations, Peninsula CLC has helped develop this project for new arrivals in Frankston. Based on principles of community development, the project comprises an 11 week education program (with interpreters) to help new arrivals understand road laws and form links with local agencies. |

Footscray CLC has provided training for AMES Community Guides, covering a basic introduction to Australian Law including family violence, divorce, child protection, driving, consumer contracts and police powers. The training is aimed at equipping non-legal workers to recognise and deal with legal issues, including what information to give clients and where to refer them for legal advice. AMES is Victoria's principal provider of Humanitarian Settlement Services. AMES Community Guides are bi-lingual workers who assist newly arrived refugees to settle in Australia. |

Footscray CLC has provided a number of workshops for the Youth2Youth Project, which is run by the Ecumenical Migration Centre at the Brotherhood of St Laurence. The workshops aim to skill youth leaders in recognising and dealing with legal issues in relation to contracts, credit/loans, public transport, police powers and discrimination. |

Driving and Mental HealthThere is a set of national standards "Assessing Fitness To Drive". A Doctor or Psychiatrist will complete a medical report assessing your fitness to drive in regard to your condition. You have the right to seek a second opinion if you disagree with the first medical report. If you are not happy with the Vic Roads' decision, you have 28 days to ask Vic Roads to review it. Education Portal is a companion website to the Law Handbook Online. The site is tailored to the needs of secondary and TAFE students and teachers and introduces students to the law, law reform and community activism. The site has four case studies examining legal change. Each case study consists of a role play, notes and lesson plans. The Education Portal also has a directory to the educational activities offered by community legal centres and government agencies. |
